Who is Lola Ovayoza?

Lola Ovayoza is a Nigerian writer and storyteller whose work delves into the intimate, often unspoken forces that shape human lives. She writes across literary fiction, psychological thrillers, and emotionally rich character-driven narratives, creating stories that explore identity, love, trauma, memory, and the quiet transformations that define us. Lola’s books—spanning worlds like Death and I, Obiliwiski, and other unreleased works—are known for their emotional depth, lyrical clarity, and the way they linger long after the last page.

Beyond her writing, Lola is an inquisitive and creative individual. She reads widely, designs and styles fashion pieces, builds cinematic playlists for her characters, and indulges her fascination with human psychology through true-crime documentaries. Every aspect of her creativity feeds into the universes she builds—soft, sharp, complex, and hauntingly honest.

At her core, Lola believes in the transformative power of storytelling: the ability of a story to break, mend, reveal, or reshape a person. Her mission is simple—write the kind of worlds readers can feel, not just read.

How did her writing journey begin?

Lola’s writing journey began when she was nine years old, nurtured by a childhood filled with stories. She read every short storybook she could find—especially the works of authors like Ben Akponine Samuel—captivated by how ordinary words could build entire worlds. She scribbled in notebooks, created characters she treated like close companions, and found comfort in the quiet magic of storytelling.

Her early reading life was rich and varied. At home, her mother bought stacks of Silhouette Moments romance novels—titles like Just One Look—introducing her to authors such as Carla Cassidy and Nora Roberts. Those books opened her eyes to emotion-driven narratives, dramatic arcs, and the art of writing characters readers could root for.

At the same time, she discovered the world of mobile reading. Through Opera Mini, she read obsessively on Worldreader and devoured novels by Ruby Yayra Goka, whose stories shaped her early taste for heartfelt, character-focused fiction. These digital libraries became her secret doorway into universes far beyond her own.

Everything changed in 2018 when a friend introduced her to Wattpad. For the first time, Lola discovered a global community of readers and writers who shared her passion for stories with the same intensity she did. Wattpad became her training ground—a space where she experimented, shared her work, learned narrative rhythm, and discovered her voice.

Her journey began with curiosity, grew through the stories that raised her, and continues today with intention, discipline, and an undying love for the power of fiction.

What inspires her stories?

Lola’s stories are inspired by the quiet, everyday moments that most people tend to overlook—small conversations, silent tensions, unspoken emotions, and the fragile spaces between who we are and who we aspire to be. She has a profound interest in human psychology: exploring why people love the way they do, why they conceal their feelings, why they experience heartbreak, and how they ultimately find their way back to themselves.

She finds inspiration in music, in the rhythm and mood of a single song; in fashion, where colour and silhouette translate into character; in true-crime documentaries that dissect motive and human complexity; and in the books she grew up reading—soft romances, dramatic character arcs, and stories that cared deeply about emotion.

Her characters often come from questions she can’t shake off:
What happens when someone finally tells the truth? What does it cost to start over? What does healing look like when no one is watching?

She writes from a place of curiosity, empathy, and imagination—pulling from the world around her, the world inside her, and the worlds she wishes existed. Every story begins with a feeling, a spark, or a character whispering their way into her mind…and once they arrive, she follows them to see where they lead.

What does Lola enjoy outside of writing?

Outside of writing, Lola is a deeply creative and curious person. She loves reading widely—everything from literary fiction to romance to psychological thrillers—drawing inspiration from diverse voices and styles. Fashion is another outlet for her imagination; she enjoys designing and styling pieces, experimenting with aesthetics, and expressing stories through clothing.

Music is one of her favourite creative tools. She builds playlists for moods, characters, and scenes, treating sound like another layer of storytelling. She also has a soft spot for true-crime documentaries, not for the shock, but for the psychological depth and the insight they offer into human behaviour.

When she wants to unwind, Lola enjoys quiet routines: organising her space, exploring new interests online, revisiting comforting books, and losing herself in conversations that spark new ideas. Everything she does outside of writing feeds her creativity in one way or another—helping her see the world with fresh eyes and giving her stories new life.

What genres does she write in?

Lola writes across a range of genres, blending literary depth with emotional storytelling. Her work spans literary fiction, psychological thrillers, and character-driven narratives, with a particular focus on women’s experiences, relationships, and inner lives.

From the intimate, reflective worlds of The Quiet Days to the high-stakes tension of Ace & Jinx and Death And I, her stories explore human emotion in all its complexity—love, loss, identity, trauma, and transformation. Even when her narratives are suspenseful or dramatic, they are always grounded in real, relatable characters and the messy beauty of human life.

Lola’s writing bridges genres, creating books that are both thought-provoking and page-turning, inviting readers to feel deeply while being pulled through compelling stories.
